This article is an introduction to street piano locations in Japan that I have visited.

Have you ever heard of a street piano? In recent years, street pianos have been installed in various locations around the world. These pianos are usually placed in public spaces such as parks and train stations, and anyone can play them for free. The idea behind street pianos is to bring music into people’s everyday lives and create a sense of community through music.

This time I will introduce a street piano in Ashikaga station, Tochigi prefecture.

PIANO TYPE:upright piano

Here, you can play a piano with a strawberry pattern.
The reason for the strawberry pattern is that Tochigi Prefecture is famous for several local foods, and one of them is strawberries. The “Tochiotome” variety has been the highest producer of strawberries in Japan for over half a century since 1968. Tochiotome is a popular and delicious variety of strawberry that is known for its sweetness and juiciness, and loved by many people. By incorporating the local specialty into the design of the piano, it expresses the identity of the region and becomes an attractive spot for tourists.

Installation period: Limited time

From Saturday, March 4th, 2023 to Wednesday, May 31st, 2023.
