Piano Type : Grand Piano
PURPOSE
This piano was installed to promote communication between guests from Japan and abroad through music, and to provide hospitality to visitors to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

This piano was donated by a Tokyo resident and is filled with memories. The decoration was also supervised by avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama.

Playable time : 10:00~12:00 / 14:00~16:00
The performance is divided into two parts, each lasting two hours, so you need to keep an eye on the time.
You will also need to take the elevator, so we recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time.
It tends to get particularly crowded on weekends and holidays, and it may take an hour to get onto the elevator.

- Please refrain from announcing performance dates and times on social media etc. for the purpose of attracting audiences.
- Commercial performances and photography are prohibited.
- Bringing in other instruments, playing in an ensemble, singing with an instrument, cosplay, asking for clapping, or any other performance-like activity is not permitted.
- The use of tripods and other filming methods that may cause the event to fall over are not permitted. Live streaming is also not permitted.
- In principle, piano duets are limited to two people. Jumping in during a performance is not permitted.
- If you wish to perform again after the performance has finished, please re-line up.
There will be an attendant present who will first give you some instructions on things to be careful about.
In addition, staff will be measuring the time for five minutes from the start of the performance.
The use of tripods and other equipment is prohibited when taking videos, so it is a good idea to ask a friend to take the video for you.

There are north and south observation decks, and the street piano is located on the south observation deck.
If you search for Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building on Google Maps on a holiday, it will say that it is closed, but you can still get there using Google Maps.
If it’s crowded like this image, you’ll have to line up to the back.

There are also days when the facility is closed, so it’s a good idea to check in advance.
*The South Observatory is closed on the first and third Tuesday of every month (or the following weekday if the Tuesday falls on a public holiday).

The nearest station is Tochomae Station.
You can also get there from Shinjuku Station.
When you do so, head out of the West Exit and you will see signs for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
Follow those signs.
It will take about 10 minutes.
